For me it has worked out all right. It took about four months to get past the "I have to go out after work for a cocktail" stage. I still drink during the week, but it is usually a glass of wine or a beer while I unwind before bed. I started working out at 5 a.m., which kept me from drinking late because it would be such hell to get up in the morning. I feel amazing actually. The one thing that really sucked (probably more than not drinking all the time) was that I lost contact with some of my friends (aka drinking buddies). We still hit each other up on some weekends, but I made new friends that are actually coherent at the end of the night and I prefer their company. It actually can get kinda sad to hang out with your old buddies that drink too much. That's my experience--more good than bad I would say.

marriage, divorce, reform, control and remarry. then start all over again.

As i saw it from my boyfriend......he ended up in the hospital a few times, ended up in jail, drivers license taken away, people using him for buying the alcohol....worked hard and spent everything he had on drinking. After ending up in the hospital with throwing up blood, he finally decided to go to the "meetings"....i drove him around, he stayed away from his drinking buddies, he had an "alarm" on his car which he had to 'blow' into some gadget to stop it from not starting. With all this stuff going on, he just decided it was not worth it any longer to be a drunk.
I don't drink or party so that was good for him and he's still sober after 3 years. All restrictions have been lifted and he can live and drive more 'normal' now.
He looks better physically, mentally clear and now he spends money on himself and sees it physically and not just peeing it off...into the toilet or wherever.....

You'll know you're a grown up when you make better choices for you life.
