Do you have any good advice for a recovering alcoholic? Thanks?!
AA works for some people, not for everyone, not for me
I just think what happens everytime I use.
It never changes, I end up damm near broke, feel sick for a day or so, my work/job suffers, social disaster. Kicked out of friends houses or bars. My life never improves, yet I did it for years expecting a different outcome.
I quit using because I was sick of being such a loser
Answers: I suffer from substance abuse problems myself

burn vodka
dont drink!!
don't drink, go to meetings, get a sponsor, and work the steps
I grew up with an alcoholic grandfather and the number one most important thing to do is surround yourself with supportive and positive people who will SUPPORT you.
Other than that, there's of course the obvious...stay away from bars, or places where a lot of people will be drinking. When going to parties, out to dinner, etc... ask your friends/partner not to drink.
Good luck :)
"Do Not" advice is hard to follow so here's some "do" advice. Do open yourself up to making new friends of people who do not drink. Do seek out new social settings where alcohol is not served. Try to be open to new ideas of what is fun to do. Do try completely new patterns of behavior. For example when you used to do something you enjoyed then followed it by a trip to a place serving alcohol try doing that same old behavior, but following it up with a trip to one of the new places or meeting your new Friends as mentioned above. Better yet, try doing it with your new, non-drinking friends and hanging out with them afterward. The point is to make small positive changes in your attitude, your way of thinking and in your life so that in the end your life will be quite different, but much better, much healthier, happier and alcohol free. If you give it up you'll miss it. If you replace it you just may be too busy and having too much fun to notice.

I have been sober for over 4 months and own a bar,I try not to be around it as it makes me quite itchy. The best advice I could give is to follow the 12 steps, the book has been around long enough and it works for alot of people all you have to do is follow it, it even tells you how to stay sober and it has been working for me.
