Yes. Two absinthe liquors -- Lucid and Kubler -- have been approved for sale in the United States with more to come to the market.

Absinthe is highly regulated though. Absinthe contains the chemical thujone, which can be addictive and cause hallucinations. The absinthe now available in the United States is tested and must pass with a small margin of error. So, absinthe in the US is not as strong as it may be overseas.

Yes, and no. It's most likely the new recepie. Like the coca-cola these days is legal, but the original with the coca leaf extract wouldn't be. So while it's still called absinthe... it's not the really cool stuff ;)

Yes

The US cannot sell the absinthe that you see around the middle east. That stuff has a mild hallucenogen that causes the drinker to sometimes see a "green fairy" as well as other things. The stuff they sell here is a cheap copy minus the drugs and other factors. It tastes exactly the same (ive tried both) but it doesnt get you dizzy or make you pass out as fast. Your local liquor store should have it now.

There ya go...if you want to try absinthe because you think the wormwood will make your hallucinate, I'll reccomend you find a bottle of sage oil (50+% thujone) and pound that and some vodka instead.

From what I've heard, absinthe itself is a terribly nasty drink.

Yes, it is available for sale in the US now. It is also perfectly legal to import the real stuff into the US as well.

It tastes like *** if you ask me. It tastes like anise or black liquorice. You mix it with water and sugar, I've never heard of any other way of serving it.

PS. The whole hallucinogenic thing is a myth. It was proven decades ago that you would have to consume so much absinthe for the wormwood to effect you that you would already be dead from the alcohol poisoning.
