basically any human emotion (or lack of emotion) could be an excuse for binge drinking.
Age restriction is a major reason.
Kid will always want to do wat they are not allowed to. They end up considering that drinking is bravery, a grown up thing, and the booze makers are peddling along their wares presenting drinking as smart, sexy, manly and what have you.
In Southent Europe (Italy, Greece, S. France) where there are no such restrictions, binge drinking is not an issue, and alcoholism rates much lower. The kids are given an occassional sip of wine in family gatherings or celebrations (which they generally decline after they taste it), and it is not forbidden to have a drink if you so please at a younger age.
Ten: stepped into a puddle today and messed up clothes before and interview
nine: found that there was a piece of lettuce in your teeth at the end of a date when you cant remember eating any salad.
eight: Failed out of a college course
seven: your dog died
six: your girlfriend threw out all your dirty mags and pornos that she found, including your secret stash
five: You found your parents liquer cabinet when they are not expected to be home for 24 hours
four: Graduating, Birthday, Baby's birth, a friend got married
three: Your ex boyfriend got married while you have been single since you broke up with him
two: Same ex boyfriend is having a baby
And the number one reason for binge drinking is of course a recent heartbreak followed by a confession from your best friend that she is now sleeping with the man who broke your heart (switch it around if you are a guy, or keep it the same if you are gay)
