What is a really good kind of Cabernet Red Wine? - how do i pick a good one?!

Question: I personally have been really into Black Swan (Austrailan), Yellow Tail is very good (also Austrailan). Some of the South African Reds are pretty dang'ol tasty! (tell you what!)
I happen to be lucky enough to live in the Llano Estacado... which, oddly enough, is where the Llano Estacado Vinter is located ( one of the TOP wines in the country ), as well as being the locale of the Pheasent Ridge and Caprock Winerys. Both of which make pretty good cabernets... and most of the wines listed are around (or under) $10 a bottle...
And just to clearify: Merlot is NOT a Cabernet...

I think merlot is nice

Go to a liquor store and ask the clerk

I prefer Napa cabs. I like Staggs Leap Wine Cellars, Freemark Abbey Bosche, ZD, Frogg's Leap, Caymus, Mondavie Reserve, and Liparita.
Most of these are fairly widely available in the states and good in most any vintage.

J Lohr is nice....Kenwood....any from Napa Valley.
