if you are trying to save and/or preserve the label, they make these fancy thing that do just that. see attached from wine.com website.

soak it in hot water, with dish washing detergent

I would try steaming it off or I would use a funnel and fill it with almost boiling water.

steaming it might work if you want to save the label. If you don't want to save the label just soak it in warm soapy water.

It all depends on how the label is stuck on. If it is a self adhesive label then heat is needed, if an water soluble paste then soaking in warm water will work.

If this is a wine from a new world country or a very recent wine from the old world it is likely to be self adhesive. Pour boiling water into the bottle, leave for 5-10 minutes and see if you ca peel the label off.

Otherwise try soaking the bottle in a bowl of warm water and see if the label comes off.

Sometimes the label is stubborn -- you can use a 'label-lifter' - which is a sheet of clear plastic with a strong adhesive that fixes to the label and strips it off.

soak it in hot water
