What temperature should wine be kept at?!

Question: And is it different for different kinds of wine? I will be going to a few holiday parties this year, so I want to show up looking like I know what I'm doing :-)

Red wine should be kept at what is called "cellar temperature" (not room temperature). About 55 degrees (up to 60).

White runs from 40 - 50 degrees. Personally, I buck the trend here and go for as cold as humanly possible. This is not however conventional wisdom.

There is a temperature chart at the end of this link that addresses various wine serving temperatures.

whites throw in an ice bucket (should be kept cold)
Reds - Room Temp

Red wine is best kept at room temperature. White wine should be chilled in the fridge before serving.

White is served chilled, Red is served at room temperature usually aired out for a bit in a decanter.

do you mean be kept at for long term storage or just before serving?

I see others answered for "before serving" so i'm going to respond for long term storage.
Whites: Do not keep more than a year.
Reds These can keep for 5 years typically. some much longer.

Both: keep on their side (so the cork stays moist) and at about 45 deg. to 60 deg. Never let them freeze.

LD

Most bottles of wine will tell you on the label (small print) what temperature they are best served at.

No mystery
