About £100.00 ..............

Champange is a sparkling wine, but as another answerer indicated, is only produced in the Champagne region of France. There are some really excellent sparkling wines that come out of California and Spain's cava (their equivalent of champagne) is good and very affordable.

Very strict rules about where the grapes are grown, where it is made, how it is made, which varieties of grapes can be used and how long it has to mature in the cellar for etc. Obviously the answers to the first two points are Champagne in France.
It should be added however that many similar rules also exist for other regional sparkiling wines such as Prosecco (Italy) and Cava (Spain).

all answers above are correct. Moet/ Chandon came to Cali in the 1800's with the process to make Champagne, i believe they also brought clippings of French vines with them as well.

Like Mayor said, Champagne (with capital C) is designated as sparkling wines from Champagne region of France. It is the standard nomenclature of the wine world that is understood and respected. Champagne is for most part Chardonnay and Pinot grape based.

"champagne" with little c has been used, unofficially, for sparkling wines for all parts of the world. This is not a preferred/correct way to describe sparkling wines, but it is used by many people.

Common area of production of sparkling wines include US and Italy and Australia, with all sort of grapes being used worldwide. In fact, they even make sparkling Shiraz in Australia. Many Napa winemakers use the same technique and same grapes as French Champagne, and some of those are actually owned by the French companies that also make French Champagne.
