you should make sure you have a full stomach and pace yourself. the faster you drink, the drunker you get. its always good to have munchies around to soak up some liquor if you feel like you are getting too loaded.
Start later. I'm a ponce when it comes to how much alchol I can take so i always try go out a bit later than usual.
Eat before you drink. Dont mix your drinks.
drink slow and maybe eat a good meal before to line your stomach

Make sure you have something to eat before you go out...and maybe subsitute a couple of drinks for water and pretend its vodka
drink every day untill the party. If your body isn't used to drink then it won't know how to handle it. You need to build up your immunity.

The traditional trick (well it was on an episode of Happy Days) was to drink a slug of olive oil... if it's recommended by the Fonz you know it must be true.
Fizzy drinks are absorbed more quickly than still drinks so stay away from the alcopops, maybe get a spritzer and just keep topping up with lemonade or soda water.
A meal including rice have a of drink milk before you go out you could alternate between water and booze or not drink even better just stay sober and watch everyone else make an ar$e of themselves
I used to be a light-weight too, now I'm one the greatest heavy-weights I know (only my 40-year-old uncle can outdrink me and he's an alcoholic).
Don't listen to anyone saying to eat first as this is simply a short-term solution and won't help you out in the long-run, sure it might help you out with this party, but what about the next one or the one after that?. What you need to do is build up tolerance to alcohol. The best thing to do is to drink really heavy drinks (spirits etc) regularly and alone or with close friends. After a very short time, you will begin to build up a big tolerance to lighter drinks (beer, alcopops etc).
Hey don't se being a light-weight as a bad thing... Think of it like this:
On a night out who has to spend more to have so much fun, a light-weight or a heavy-weight? A light-weight!
So just take time over drinks all night and don't drink more than 3-4 cans of any alcoholic beverage and you will by the end of the night be just as drunk as everyone who has been drinking non-stop loool!
