What I'd like to do is figure out exactly how many pints of lager it'd take to match one OE 40 in terms of alcohol content. What if I wanted to convert all of my drinks (including, say, shots) into the terms of a normal pint? I've never been the best at maths, so would anyone like to give me some kind of equation to plug these things into?
Answers: Alright, so let's say I have an Olde English 800 High Gravity 40 oz. That's 8% abv.

convert everything to total amount of alcohol, that will give you an idea how much it is.
8% of 40 ounces is 3.2 ounces of pure alcohol
Just multiply the percentage by the ounces and you'll get total alcoholic content.
4 ounces of 40% alcohol jack daniels is 1.6 ounces of pure alcohol, for example.
Now just figure out how much alcohol is in a standard pint
20 ounces x 5% is 1 ounce of pure alcohol, so that is roughly your standard gauge. Every ounce of alcohol is roughly a pint of lager.
(Volume of drink)x(Alcohol percentage/100) = Volume of alcohol
If your looking to put everything into terms of 4.5% pints, remember that the amount of alcohol is (16oz.)x(0.045)=0.72oz alcohol. So simply divide you answer from the top equation by 0.72 and you will have the equivalent of average pints.
Ex. Three 1oz shots of Bacardi 151(proof) is 75.5% alcohol (proof/2 = alcohol percentage).
So, (3oz)x(0.755)=2.265oz alcohol
2.265oz drank/0.72in a pint of beer = 3.14.
So, you drank the equivalent just over three pints of 4.5% beer when you did those 3 shots of 151 proof.
