What do they do to red beer, to make it red??!

Question: I am a former chef from Canada and Mitchell Winery in his mention of Killans Red, here in Canada we have several, I had a firend whom was the chef at a brewpub/restaurant, he told me the type malted barley and the strain of yeast porduce the tawny reddish hue. not food colour or tomato juice, it is a bit more headier and a thicker taste, most like and English bitter or German Blonde .

I have worked all over and had several even in the US at brew/pub place or micro brew operations, and is a nice taste, but a unique taste and is not everyones cup of tea.

Probably just food coloring, the same way Kool Aid is colored.

If you are talking about ordering a 'Red beer' in a bar, that is simply beer with tomato juice or Clamato in it.
If you are talking about a beer that is brewed to be red, like Killian's Red, that is based on the ingredients used to brew that beer.
