Just start going door to door asking if they're hiring. Keep in mind, too, that barbacks can make a lot of money and the jobs are often hard to come by. Usually, you're expected to start as a floor guy or the ID checker at the door and then "work your way up" to a barback position. Depending on what bar you're looking at, you'll find some barbacks who've been working there for years because the job is so good.. so shifts may not even open up quickly.
As a tip: Unfortunately, the best way to get into the bar business is to know someone. You'll get hired much more quickly if someone can vouch for you.
