What is a Carboy Handle?
i am looking into home brewing and don't know what a carboy handle is, can someone explain please
Answers:
It's a handle...for your carboy.
Most importantly, it's only for moving your carboy around when EMPTY!
It's one of these:

They allow you to carry your carboys (which can be a little heavy and awkward) with one hand and possibly two at once. Carboys' size, clumsiness, and simply being made of glass makes them rather precarious to move around without and accidental chip, or worse, shatter.
For the sake of learning more about homebrewing and the supplies needed, snoop around the catalog of a supplier. My favorite is http://morebeer.com/ although there are hundreds of others online. A quick google search may turn up some actual stores in your area, too.
A Carboy is a big jug. A Carboy Handle attaches to the carboy (jug) so you can move it around easier.
From Wiki: "A carboy is a glass or plastic vessel that is often used in fermenting beverages such as wine, mead, and beer. Usually it is fitted with a rubber stopper and a fermentation lock to prevent bacteria from entering during the fermentation process." Link below.....
Also below is a link to Williams Brewing which shows a picture of a carboy handle (you can even order some from them).
Hope this helps.
If you are starting out instead of a carboy you might want to start out with a plastic bucket an "ale pail" here is a picture http://beer.norm.name/carboy.jpg... they are a little cheaper, much easier to clean and move since it already has a handle. Although I do think the glass gives a much better result. I personally like to have one of each, but you can get the job done with plastic or glass. I have been home brewing for a few years now and never bought a carboy handle because I thought it was an unnecessary expense. I do not think you need one right away. Hope you have fun.
a carboy is a very large glass bottle, usually five gallons. The handle is a special stopper that lets the gas out when in the fermenting stage.
