What is the difference between a pinot and merlot?!

Question: Pinot Noir and Merlot are the names of two different grape varietals. Pinots tend to be lighter and more delicate, and Merlots are more full bodied. Interestingly, since the film Sideways has come out the market has been flooded with cheap poorly made Pinots, but before it was flooded with bad Merlot. Both grapes can make wonderful wines.

I just thought they were made of different grapes.

It is the name of the grape. Like Chianti or Amorone (red)
Or Chardonay (white)

Merlot is a much darker wine to me. I am not a merlot fan at all ... but love pinot... :)

Enjoy.

They are totally two different types of grapes. Suggestion try wine tastings not much money but you can learn what you like. Like all things wine is an aquired taste.

Pinot noir is much lighter than the fuller bodied Merlot. Both are very tasty, however.

those are 2 different type of grapes. pinot noir is a lighter, fruitier type of red wine, merlot is a medium to full bodied, smooth, velvety.

They use different kinds of grapes.

merlot is a region where the grapes are grown, pinot is a type of grape
