Could the Biblical story of Jesus calming a storm at sea, be used to compare with someones eventually recovery!

for me to beat something as strong as addiction it took a strong desire within to stop and a surrender to HIM.....as many times as i tried on my own ....and failing.....i finally came to know i could not do it on my own and when i surrendered it to HIM i now have strength to take one day at a time! And it never felt better!
Jesus used many parables to teach his lessons to those for whom the concepts may have been too difficult to comprehend.
Why not use this story as a metaphor to understand or to teach others of the salvation that can occur when one surrenders their life to Him.
