Has anyone given Cuban's as a gift and ordered online?!

Question: I would like to send cuban's as a christmas gift. Has anyone done this? Which web site did you use? Do you know the legal ramifications.
What is the best brand of cigars that can be obtained outside of cuba? Thank you!

Honestly, if you're giving 'em to an individual that smokes alot of cigars (and knows anything about 'em), then gifting Cuban cigars is not worth the time or expense that it entails.

Now, I have been to several countries in the Caribbean where Cuban cigars are perfectly legal and have performed the "Pepsi Challenge" between Cuban cigars from Partegas, Montecristo, and Romeo y Julietta; and their Dominican cousins. And, honestly, in all cases, the Dominican cigars were higher quality, had more consistent and better wrappers, were made with more attention to detail, and, quite frankly, smoked alot better.

It's my contention that, once the trade embargo with Cuba is lifted (don't ask, it could be 20 years away...it could be tomorrow), the enlightened cigar smokers in this country will rejoice....not because importing Cuban cigars is no longer illegal, but because prices on the far superior Dominican brands will drop precipitously.

See, once that embargo goes, all demand will shift to Cubans, regardless of whether or not they're worth it...and, in order to maintain anything approaching market share, the Dominican brands will have to cut prices.

And my humidor and I will be waiting!!!

Anyhow...if you would like to gift some cigars and not over pay, I would suggest you consider the following Dominican brands:
Aurtro Fuente (Opus X, any of the Hemingway series, 8-5-8)
AVO (XO series; 80th Anniversary series)
Davidoff (Special Series, Anniversario Series, Millennium Series)
Ashton (VSG series)
Zino (Platinum crown or Platinum scepter series)
Partegas (Black label series, Decatas)
Montecristo (Pretty much anything they make is good)
Cohiba (Not my favorite, but everyone knows 'em...)

Hope this helps...

They are illegal and you will get in trouble for doing it

i don't know much about cigars, but i'm thinking cubans are illegal. try finding a good cigar shop in your area. they shoudl be able to help

Ask a Smoker.

Dominicans are better than Cubans in my opinion. I have had hand rolled Cubans in Mexico, I think they are overpriced.

If you order the cigars outside of Cuba, they are not Cubans.

Cubans are illegal in the U.S., though there are a number of sites (mostly out of Canada, easily google'd) that will sell and ship them to you. They will package and ship the cigars, the rings and the box separately. Of course, they could easily be counterfeit. Even if they are real, Cuban quality has dropped off dramatically as Castro inflated production to get cash. Stick to the Montecristo #2' s, as they are difficult to roll and therefore only the best workers are assigned to them.

Of the non-Cubans, Fuentes Opus X, Partagas, Nat Sherman, Davidoff, Ashton and Cohiba are the "giftworthy" brands.

come to canada. cubans are legal here . where i live in halifax we make good money selling them to americans off the cruise ships

Illegal...closest thing would be a Florida cigar, like a HavaTampa or from Miami.

Cuban cigars in this country are mostly counterfeit. That means that the tobacco is real Cuban (at least the filler) but they are rolled outside of Cuba. Most likely southern Florida. This does not qualify as legitimate Cubans. They do not smoke right and are inferior in all ways from a real Cuban. That business about removing the bands is a sure sign of a scam. That is because it is more difficult to counterfeit the box (with official stamps) and a band than it is to counterfeit the cigars. You can get real Cubans on the black market. Expect to pay $25 and up for one cigar.

Cubans are not only ilegal but they are often counterfeitted. There are many scams where sellers place Cuban cigar rings ( such as Cohiba brand ) on cheaper cigars and sell them as Cubans or pull a " double " scam where they sell you cheaper cigars with the cigar rings intact but falsely inform you they the cigars are really Cubans, but they have put cheaper non-cuban cigar rings on them to make them appear to be legal. You are probably better off going to a website like J.R. Cigars ( World's largest seller ) & buying something like a Don Tomas Corojo ( DT-660 ) which is an excellent cigar @ $ 50. for a box of 20.----Another good popular cigar is Excalibur EX-40 @ $ 58. for a box of 20 @ J.R.---I have been buying from them for years since I used to work in New York City and now online. Their prices are great; their selection is unbeatable & .....No I don't work nor have I ever worked for J.R. Cigar.-;--If money is not really an object & you want what is considered to be among the very best & is considered to be even better than Opus X; ---Cigar.com has Arturo Fuente God of Fire Churchill @ $ 230. for a box of 10.
