I like honey crisps and fuji.

granny smith are the best

for cooking or eating?

granny smith

FUJI by far

My favorite is Red Delicious. They look so good and are so sweet.

In my mind, there is no best overall, but a combination. When I want to reminisce about my childhood, I'll eat a red delicious (nice crunch and sweet). For a snack, Fuji is really nice. In a pie, a pippin or granny smith always works.

macintosh by far.

Fuji apples, by far.

That's a loaded question. In recent years, a lot of different varieties have become available in grocery stores. It used to be limited to a couple of cooking apples and a choice of red delicious or yellow delicious. Now you'll find a dozen varieties in a good store. I'm an orchard owner and have watched how this has changed over the years.

There are many varieties of heirloom apples which never reach the market. The only place to buy these are at farm stands. Arkansas spy is one of these. Delicious, but only available from farms. Many apples were developed in an area and kept in that area. They grow well for their climate and have a great taste, but maybe don't store well or ship well.

As far as a general purpose apple, I'd probably say Granny Smith. It is a good pie or sauce apple and also a good eating apple. I prefer Braeburns for eating, but I'm going with Granny Smith because of the dual purpose.

Braeburn.

for red apples: braeburn
for green apples: granny smith
and for yellow apples: golden delicious

I only eat Fuji apples. It's just right. Not green, not red, not too sour, not too sweet ... with firm flesh! Love it!
