What kind of alcohol has the least amount of calories?!

Question:

What kind of alcohol has the least amount of calories?

Somebody told me vodka.

Answers:
All alcohol has calories. And a lot of them.

Calories can come from one of four sources: Fat, protein, carbohydrates, or alcohol, with alcohol the second largest source at 7 calories per gram of alcohol. (The largest is fat with 9 cal per gram. Carbs and protein both have 4 cal per gram.)

As you may know, there is about the same amount of alcohol in a single shot of liquor (1.5 oz) as there is in a bottle of beer (12 oz) as there is in a glass of wine (proper pour = 4 - 5 oz). Thus, there is about the same amount of calories in each of these drinks on account of the alcohol content. Beer however, does have additional ingredients (mostly in the form of carbs) that increase the calories by about 50-100 per bottle. Similarly, mixers with hard liquor would raise the calories of the beverage, unless the mixer is water, diet cola, or something else that contains no calories.

Now, 1.5 oz liquor, 12 oz light beer, or 4 oz wine all contain ROUGHLY 100 calories per serving, give or take a few calories depending on type, brand, etc.

Vodka is usually 80 proof, or 40% alcohol, so that is going to have the same amount of calories as other 80 proof liquor such as rum and gin. If you were comparing a glass of vodka to a glass of beer, the vodka would of course have a much higher calorie count because the alcohol content is way higher in the vodka when compared with beer in equal volumes. But again, one shot is about the same as one bottle of light beer. You get the picture.

Basically, regular beer and mixed drinks are the highest because of the extra calories in them. For everything else, the higher the alcohol content, the higher the calories. But if served in "proper" quantities per drink, everything will be about the same.

My knowledge as a nursing student who enjoys gettin her party on.

hard liquor with a calorie free drink
Bacardi with diet coke has 0 calories

i believe it vodka or a light rum. if you're going to mix it - vodka and soda, or rum and diet coke

FYI.. vodka and other hard liquers DO have calories. The bigger culprit is alcohol in general. Drinking it causes your metabolism to slow down, which in turn, means your body isn't burning the calories you're putting in, whether it be alcohol, food or both.

bacardi came out with flavored rum called Bacardi island breeze Its a little lower on the proof, but it has half the calories of any other liquor out there. They had coconut, mixed berry, and key lime.

The calories in a drink come from the alcohol content (proof), it doesn't matter what kind, only the amount.
So the less alcohol in a drink, or the weaker it is, the less calories it will have.
