What exactly is a "wine cooler"?!

Question:

What exactly is a "wine cooler"?

I never quite understood wine coolers. If you read the label, they are actually malt liquor, sort of like Colt 45 (ew!). Is there any actual wine in them? Or are wine coolers just fruity beer?

Answers:
Ok from your question i believe youre talking about a bartell and James, bacardi Razz, or Barcardi Breezers type of wine cooler. It says that it is a malt liqour because the alcohol in it was made through the malting process like beer. Unlike beer, wine coolers do not use hops (the bittering agent in beer) for a large portion of the flavoring. Wine coolers use sugar as the main source of flavor. So do not worry your wine coolers are very very different from Colt 45. Most wine coolers run from 3.7% alcohol by volume (abv) to 4.5% abv. Colt 45 has 6.1% abv. Colt 45 is malt liqour meaning that it is made cheapily and to have a lot of alcohol. Your wine cooler was made to taste good and have a moderate amount of alcohol.

If you are talking about the mixed drink wine cooler:
20oz glass
fill half way with ice
fill 1/2 to 3/4 with red wine
fill the rest of the way with 7up/sprite

A wine cooler is usually wine mixed with water maybe flavored or with fruit juices.

But the words wine cooler are also used for the bucket or container used to chill white wine, and also to the refrigerator like cabinets used to store wine at serving temperature in restaurants and also the types used to keep win ein prefect condition for maturation.

Its Koolade with a little tiny kick.

The majority of commercially prepared wine coolers are indeed just fruit flavored beer (i.e. bartles and jaymes, bacardi, smirnoff twisted, boone's farm). If you happen to find one made with wine, it is usually called a spritzer (which is wine mixed with either carbonated water or sparkling fruit juice). I believe that a long time ago, that wine coolers WERE actually made with wine, but when the companies figured out they could make it taste similar but much more cheaply, they switched to the malt liquor.

A wine cooler is just a beverage with a small amount of wine and some fruit juice with or without a fizzy 7Up or Sprite. Enjoy!

i think it's a milder wine
