Beer & tomato juice - has anyone ever had this combination?!

Question:

Beer & tomato juice - has anyone ever had this combination?

I lived in Rantoul in the mid-70's and one of the locals I used to go to used to serve pitchers of.... yep, beer & tomato juice.
Has anyone ever had this? Who in blazes ever came up with this combo?
Need to tell you that I got to liking it. Now a days, when ever I'm hot and want something cold I take my time a prepare one of these and do it up like a Bloody Mary. Don't knock 'til you've tried it.

Answers:
This is a staple here in the Midwest. Try it with a few green olives dropped in. Or, try it with Clamato or V-8, Hot and Spicy.

I drink this in great volumes when it gets into the 100 degree F summer time heat out here.

Nothing better in the world than a bloody beer. All of the foofy drinkers out there will poo-poo this but it doesn't melt like a margarita, won't slap you around like a strong Bloody Mary and quite honestly tastes better.

..and lived you mean?

I have, tasty stuff.

Not before but i will try it

I actually like this combo, especially after a night of drinking. And a lot of older men who have problems with their tummys drink it too because the beer alone is too hard for them!

Love it. I do it all the time! My Dad's friend used to drink 'em like that when I was a little kid.

My parents tried it once it smelt like crap

yes fiance likes poor mans martinis

They're called "Red Beers". Very Common. You can request them at any bar and they will know what you want. Normally made with a light water beer (Bud Light, Coors Light Miller Lite) and V8.

Mixed together??? Ewww... sounds nasty.

thats what my dad used to drink - yuck

I love bloody mary's but I am not a fan of Vodka so I put Beer with my Tomato juice...tastes much better that way!

YES - IT MADE MY SEMEN FLORESCENT RED

I have served it many times. They call it red beer. Some like V8 or Clamato instead of tomato juice.

Yes. It's great for hangovers. I like it with spicy V-8.

sounds disgusting

It's called a Tomato Beer or a Red Rooster. Just like a bloody mary there are different variations with some even using tabasco. They serve it at my local bar as well, and honestly I'm not a big fan of tomato juice but I always have one Red Rooster, sets the tone for the night or is the perfect hangover cure. I was knocking it, that is until I tried it!

Here's another good one...beer and 7-Up/Sprite...totally refreshing.

Ya well my family drinks that but only when they have a hang over from hell.

Yes, during the 70's while in the Navy. In Singapore they drank beer with Quinine water added; said to prevent Malaria.

Yep, one of the many variations of Red Eye involves these two (usually ale/bitter/brown beer rather than lager).
It's also known as an Ugly and a Red Cow.

I've never tried one though and it sounds pretty repulsive even though I'm a HUGE fan of bloody maries (best one I've had was at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam) but I'm game for anything.

Am in Western Canada. This seems to be a regional thing. Other than tomato juice, try with Mott's Clamato Juice. Yummers.

It's called a Red Beer

This is a normal "Sunday Morning" drink for those that had too much of the spirit, the night before! It can be called a bloody mary drink (when made as such) otherwise, it's a beer with a bloody mix in a shot glass. The customer usually downs about a big gulp of beer and throws the shot glass of bloody into the beer glass. Then every time after that, he gets beer and bloody mixed. Don't know where it originated, but in the NORTHWOODS of Wisconsin (seems to be the drinking capital of the world) that is how they do it here. Ya sure! Otherwise, they just mix it themselves. You pour them a beer and give them a little can of tomato jc and as they drink beer they add the tomato jc. UGH is my personal thought with this. Have tried it, never will again. Ruins a perfectly good tomato jc.

I've tried it in the states it's named "red eye" which was good.

At least you are getting some nutrition. Be careful, though. That's a HUGE amount of sodium.

Yes, sometimes it is called a "Poor Man's Bloody Mary", "TomBoy", "Boiler Maker", and "Red Beer"....some like it as well with V8 and Clamato Juice....All in all it is good. I am originally from Central, Illinois

i love red beer. i like to have it with the spicy hot v-8. so tasty.

Beer & tomato juice is an awesome hangover cure. Most of the time it's the only thing I'll drink after a long night of drinking.

its the greatest
