If you have a super old sharpie, you actually can. Newer sharpies are marked with an AP symbol, and any sharpie with an AP symbol is near impossible to get high on.
Yeah the newer ones have a new chmical composition that makes it tough/impossible to get high off of. The markers and glue that used to work had Toulene in them. Odds are your friend was messing with you unless she stockpiled the old markers. Personally, I wouldn't ever want to use toulene to get high, it's a pretty volatile and toxic solvent..
