Answers: is the plastic used safe and how long are thesebottles usable?

they are safe
otherwise the FDA and USDA would not permit them on the market
lifetime 50 100 years
that's why they will tax and suspend production

they are safe, but plastic bottles, especially for water, need to be stopped. They take too much energy to make, take up too much room in landfills and do not decompose for a thousand years. use a refillable bottle and get your water for free.

They are safe with some exceptions. Plastic is a porous material can can obs orb things that you wouldn't find to pleasant. If reusing a water bottle make sure that you was it on occasion to kill any bacteria or fecal matter that may have built up.

Plastic bottles will leach the chemicals they're made from into the water you're drinking. I don't consider that safe. Styrofoam is much worse. The longer the water is in plastic, the more chemicals will be in the water, simple as that. Try this- drink room temperature water from a glass bottle, and room temperature watre from plastic; notice the difference in taste?

They are safe, but should not be reused. There are some concerns with refilling the bottle. It is very hard to clean effectively without using chemical to kill the bacteria. But those chemicals can effect the plastic.

So yes they are safe, just not intended for more than one use.

Just read this in the paper this morning. Interesting. This will change my thinking about plastic bottles.

Read this - I thought it was interesting since I read a time ago that you shouldn't freeze water in a plastic bottle because it would release ????? and it wasn't good. Scares me about the part in baby bottles and baby formula cans.
