I would like to enjoy a glass of wine once in a while but I don't know what would be a good smooth wine.

You dont mention Red or White etc. so I assume you are very much a wine novice. That being the case try something a little sweeter to start - maybe a nice Finger Lakes Riesling.
Do you have a Binny's or a beverage depot where you live? Go talk to someone at one of those places I did they really are helpful!
Depending on the type of wine you are looking for, I have found that most Australian wines are very nice. Two brands that I seem to have a preference for are Mcguigan and Lindemans. I have a really hard time finding a wine I enjoy and with both these labels I am able to select a wine from one end of the spectrum to the other. My favorites for each are: Lindemans Reserve Label - Pinot Noir Chardonnay and Mcguigans Black Label - NV Sparkling Shiraz.
