Need hot, alcoholic drink ideas?!

Question: I'm putting together a menu for christmas and I need some hot drink ideas. We've done hot toddy's to death and need something new.

What are some tasty hot (and don't forget the alcohol!) hot drinks?

Mexican Coffee .... :)

4 scoops of ground coffee beans, Columbian or other variety - a coffee scoop is equivalent to a rounded tablespoon
1 scoop (rounded tablespoon) cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon - eyeball it, plus a sprinkle for garnish
4 jiggers (1 ounce shots) coffee liqueur (recommended: Kahlua)
4 jiggers (1 ounce shots) Tequila ** (optional)

1 canister whipped cream with spray top

Place coffee, cocoa and cinnamon in a filter for coffee brewing. Make 4 cups of brewed mocha-cinnamon coffee. Pour a shot of coffee liquor in the bottom of a coffee mug. Pour in a serving of brewed mocha-cinnamon Mexican coffee. Top off the mug with a generous swirl of whipped cream and garnish with another sprinkle of cinnamon. Repeat for desired number of mugfuls!

Hi There-- Here are some that I have used in the past

Hot toddy: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/drink/...
Hot apple cider with rum:

Make hot spiced apple cider. Or maybe coffee with kahlua and brandy with whipped cream on top. or you could have coffee with baileys in it.

I know that mulled wine sounds 'done to death' also but there are so many variations on it. My sister and I did a few trial runs with our own recipes (which proved to be fabulous evenings in themselves) and came up with Red Wine, cinnamon, ginger, orange juice, brandy, sugar, cloves and pieces of oranges and sweet apples. You decide ratio of ingredients yourself depending on personal taste. Personally, I loved the brandy edition.

After dinner hot drinks? French Coffee (brandy), Calypso Coffee (Tia Maria. My favourite) or make up your own, eg. Scottish Coffee (Scotch) etc. I also love Bailey's Coffee.

Have fun.

Warm apple cider is my favorite. Heat it up in a pot on the stove with cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. Add in a little WHISKEY for a woods-y flavor--delicious! Plus, it makes your house smell wonderful and it can serve quite a few people without too much expense.

And although I've never tried it myself, I've recently read a lot about homemade egg nog being far superior to storebought. I'll link to the foodie blog where I read about it below...ok, I'll link to the blog, but here's a copy of the recipe they posted a couple of weeks ago:

Ingredients:

4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup rum, bourbon, or whatever poison you prefer
4 egg whites

Procedure:

1. Beat egg yolks until pale yellow in color. Gradually add 1/3 cup of sugar until it is totally dissolved.

2. In a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine milk, cream, and nutmeg and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and temper the hot milk mixture into the eggs and sugar. Return everything to the pot and cook until mixture reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from heat, stir in alcohol and extract, pour into a medium-sized mixing bowl and chill in your refrigerator.

3. In a medium bowl, beat egg whites to soft peaks. Gradually add one tablespoon of sugar as you beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk egg whites into chilled mixture.

4. Put your now fresh and somewhat safe beverage in the noggin or vessel of your choice and drink up.

Happy holidays!
