I believe rum is the choice alcohol for egg nog. The amount of liquor you put in really it depends on your taste. Pour a carton or two of store bought egg nog, and then add a quarter to half a bottle of bicardi rum. Mix it and taste it. if it tastes good to you then leave it. if it tastes too weak for you add a little more, and if it's too strong for you, cut it with more egg nog. Hope this helps.

You can also put in brandy instead of rum.

Making from scratch anymore gets expensive. I just buy store bought egg nog and then I put 1 1/2 shots of brandy per 16 oz glass then fill the rest with egg nog.

there is something special about scratch...
remember the milk company must please the AVERAGE Joe.. and they do not add whipped cream ..or even separate the eggs to beat the whites ...
Just a nuance along with your choice of spice, whiskey, brandy, Cognac, ever clear crown royal, Drambuie
hey Galliano just a dash..
You want to buy from the store keep it for your coffee..
but the best 'I" ever had was the Benjamin Franklin Christmas Eggnog...

Mix it in the glass. Some people like it without alcohol. Some people (like me) prefer vodka. Some people (traditionalists) like brandy. Some people (accountants and pirates mostly) like rum. And if you have egg nog left over, use it to make french toast in the morning.

to your taste
