Are scotches ever served as well drinks at bars?!

Question:

Are scotches ever served as well drinks at bars?

Answers:
Most bars do have a well Scotch. Usually a blended such as Dewer's. When someone orders a Scotch and Soda or some other generic drink containing Scotch, they use the well stuff unless you specifically request a name brand, e.g., "Johnny Walker Black & Soda."

Guruman is right. I'm a mgr at a restuarant and we have Dewars as our well. If you ask your server at a restaurant before you order, they'll tell you what the well is. Some of the popular chain restaurants use a cheaper well you may not have even heard of. And usually, if you haven't heard of the brand, pay the extra money for a brand you've heard of.

As mentioned, some crappy scotches are used as well drinks. It's worth the money to pay up for good scotch...life is too short for crappy drinks.
