Drinking Age?!
Drinking Age?
I am 22 so it's not a problem with me, but I must ask the public "Why does America not trust "adults"". You can die for your country, choose a leader, but you can't have a beer? I understand 18 is still high school, so why not 19? 3/4 of the world has a drinking age of 17, 18 or 19. Why must America always be different?

Interesting Theory, I wouldn't care if it was that way at this point, but millions would. Maybe a driving curfew (no driving after 10pm or so), or if you work late you can get a temp after hours permit. It would make sense, but many people under 21 would be pissed.

Well the issue is not really the drinking age, it is the driving age. People were getting drunk and driving and getting in crashes. So, instead of raising the driving age, the gov't, unfortunately, raised ther drinking age. The obvious problem with this is that people drink underage, but not many drive underage. So the driving age should be 21, and the drinking age should be 18.
Don't know since it doesn't seem to make a real difference. The drinking age should be 18.
I am in total agreement. I work in a restaurant in Disney...it's difficult to tell German and other teens why they can't have a beer here when they can at home.
America likes to be a pain in the butt.
People drink regardless. I don't think that the established ages have much merit anymore.
i think that the drinking age should be 18 or 19. thats what it is in most parts of the world, and in france, kids as young as like 7 drink wine with every meal.
At one time the drinking age in America WAS 18. Don't get me wrong, I used the same argument myself (along with many others) even though I don't drink myself. It had to do with the accident/drunk driving rates at the time.
Basically, it's the same reason speed limits were lowered to 55 and the length of time between getting a learners permit and your actual license went from 6 weeks to 1 year (at least in Florida).
That's not to say that ALL18 year olds are irresponsible, but age does NOT mean maturity. So, the few are made to suffer for the excesses of the many.
I can totally agree in every aspect of what you are saying. But I don't know if you have noticed that although these other countries have a lower drinking age seem to have less control substance abuse. Good job AMERICA! Btw I am a proud American!
I agree totally with the smart answer of (in the blo). Your fifth answerer!!!! He answered it the way I would have!
Really think about what he said with a clear mind. It really makes sense for all.
