How long can an unopened champagne last inside the fridge?!

Question: I have an uncorked G.H. Mumm brut in the fridge for about over a year now. Is it still good to drink?

With Sparkling wines/ Champagnes, all the ageing has been done before disgorgement (when the dead yeast, or "lees" is taken out, and the final cork and seal is applied, before release). They are meant to be drunk as soon as possible after they’re released. They generally won’t improve, and may actually deteriorate with age but that normally still takes a couple of years to happen (quicker with older wines eg 50 year old wines, and more slowly with younger wines).

Mumm advises that their Champagnes can be kept for up to two years, provided they are stored in a cool, dry, place,at a constant temperature, away from direct sunlight, which sounds like what your fridge has been all along!

The only problem I can foresee, is if you've been keeping it upright, the cork may be britte. Maybe lay it down a day or so before you open it. To open it, hold the bottle with one hand, hold the cork with the other, then gently twist the BOTTLE until the cork eases out. This will ensure that the bubbles last longer in your glass and that the glass in your window doesn't get smashed! Pour the wine into chilled glasses, and enjoy!

No. It's probably a $14 bottle of vinegar now.

Oh the joy! Drink up and let us know the outcome!

Hummmm give it a taste test a Lil sip. My thoughts if there's nothing grow in in there all is good.

It's absolutely not going to be good any longer. However, if you open another bottle and need to save it you can dangle a real silver spoon into the opening and it will keep it fresh..or send it to me, I know how to handle a bottle of Champagne

I just opened a bottle of Mumm about a week ago, and it had been one of our three refrigerators (yes, we have 3 fridges in a two person household, as we also run a B&B) that had been in there since a year ago last T'giving......It was fine.....Pop that sucker and enjoy!!!

I didn't realise that champagne had a refrigerator life span. Crap. Got 3 bottles as birthday gift in May and for some reason, they're still in the fridge. I should take them out???

til the fizz is gone or it tastes like butt!
