How many types of cocktails are there?!

Question: There are lots of types of cocktails, that can be broken down and classified in several different ways. I use the following categories to help me remember:

Aromatic cocktails (usually contain a vermouth and a spirit and bitters.) - Manhattan, martini, negroni, etc

Sours - (spirit, lemon or lime juice and sugar) - Whiskey sour, etc
New Orleans sours (spirit, lemon or lime, triple sec) - Margarita, Sidecar, etc
International sours (spirit, citrus, liqeur)

Pousse-Cafes (layered drinks typically made with three types of liquers)

Highballs - (spirit and soda, cola or juice. Sometimes these are just other cocktails with soda added)

Dous and Trios - (A spirit and a liquer, or a spirit, liqeur and cream)

Flips - (spirit, wine or beer mixed with egg and sugar)

Cobblers
Eggnogs
Champagne cocktails

There are lots of cocktails that don't easily fit into categories either. I learned these from a book called "Joy of Mixology" that was quite helpful.
