Why does wine make you so warm?!

Question: It CANT be just the alcohol. It feels almost like a hotflash when I drink wine--a feeling I don't get with beer or rum.

Alcohol dilates the blood vessels close to the surface of the skin and this makes you feel warm, even though in fact you are not really getting warmer but losing body heat. Maybe beer is too dilute and the amount of rum you drink too small to have the full effect???

It's because you're drunk

Raises your blood pressure.

I get that feeling from tequila too
i like it

i think it's because it's a richer, warmer flavor than the booze you're talking about. i'm sure you dont' feel that way from white wine. the fuller-bodied the wine, the warmer you feel.

with that said, i suppose it is the tannins in the wine that make you feel this way - or a wine that has more "legs".

on a cold day, nothing better than curling up with a nice full-bodied italian wine and reading a book!!! :)

Drinking any alcohol will dilate your blood vessels and release heat. But, after that, you may feel colder.

the blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin and this makes you feel warm. old sayin is that wine thicken ur blood
