Best Beer Recipe?!
Answers: What would you say is the best beer recipe you have come across?
Keep it simple. Don't add a bunch of weird stuff. There a reason the Germans made that law that says only yeast, barley, water, and hops are allowed in beer.
Here what I like to do for consistently good beer
8 or 9 pounds pale ale malt
about a 1/2 pound crystal/caramel malt (how dark...that's your call I usually go about 60 L
(add 1/4 pound chocolate if you want to make a porter)
(add 1/4 pound roasted barley if you want a stout)
Boil
1 ounce hops 1 hour (i usually like the Kent Golding, Willamette, or Fugggles...but there are lots of good hops out there...I also like saaz and hallertau)
1 ounce hops 30 minutes
1 once steep
ok...put your grains in a grain bag, put in a round 5 gallon cooler with a strainer/colander in the bottom. pour 2 or 3 gallons of H20 that is about 175 degrees over the grains. check temp. it needs to be between 150 and 155 degrees. Add some ice if it is too hot. Stir the grains around a little, cover this up and then go to bed.
Wake up, drain the wort, sparge with 175 degree water, then start boiling, add hops, cool add yeast. I like the wyeast 1056 or the safale blue packet, Nottingham is OK if I don't have those.
Denny's Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter.
It starts life as a strong Porter, you add fresh vanilla beans in the secondary fermenter and Jim Beam Bourbon when bottling/kegging. It has an amazing complex great flavor. It should age for several months, and gets better with more aging. I kept some for 9 months and it was awesome.
