Spanish Wine?!

Question:

Spanish Wine?

Its my bosses birthday and he is a big fan of Spain. I want to get a top bottle of red, what is the best wine?

Thanks

Answers:
Definately a Rioja Grand Reserva.

Tempranillo is the most sought after wine in Spain, try your local liquor store.

get sherry

Rojca, is a nice spanish wine. I think the Tempronila is the same grape..... I do like a nice Rojca.... sorry spelling a bit naf!

Look in the spanish wine section of tesco and buy the 2nd most expensive.
Buying the most expensive will look like you are trying for a pay rise instead of actually buying him something he might like.

Try a bottle Marques de Arienzo Crianza - as well as being a great wine it is really well presented. Alternatively check out other good Riojas - after all this is what the Spanish are best at creating.

Pick up a bottle for yourself at the same time - you might be surprised how good it is!

Just a thought - there are some really good Sherries out there as well (another Spanish speciality)

Go with the first answer (Tempranillo).
Goto http://www.bbr.com/ (fine wine merchants) and search on Spanish wines over about £40 a bottle. :-)

Bear in mind that the top wines are seriously expensive unless you're willing to buy them young and lay them down for a long time until they're ready to drink. (Unless your boss has a Eurocave or similar probably not a good option.)

Larger Waitrose stores have decent fine wine selections. Tescos tends to be very limited.

If you have a Whole Foods near you they have a new promotion with 10 new Spanish wines. I am sure their wine specialist could help you pick a nice wine out!

'Rioja' is brilliant. But you can pay anything from £5 to £500 for a good bottle.
Another brilliant Spanish red is 'Tempranillo'. You cant beat Sainsbury's 'Castillo de Calatrava' - the 2000 reserva (which has a bonze wire wrap. Its a superb wine and at a great price.

Marques de Alvejo but it is so expensive...
By the way Sherry is not from Spain. Porto is from Portugal.

Definitely a Rioja. I agree that Marques de Arienzo Crianza is a good choice and not terribly pricey--$17-$20--but if he's really into Spanish wines he'd probably appreciate something he hasn't had (and he's definitely had Marques de Arienzo Crianza). Go to a good wine shop and ask to speak to the person who buys their wine and get a recommendation from them. I'd think an employee who gifted me a good, obscure, value wine was pretty sharp. If you've got time order from Zachys.com; you can call and get a reliable recommendation. The cost of shipping is offset by the savings in sales tax, pretty much.

try too Mator de Ondarre 1999, Summa A?ares Rioja 1998, Marquez de caceres wine

Torres Gran Sangre de Toro

It goes very well with game, stews, ragout and spicy meat.

Costs about £8 a bottle, very smooth and deep.

check for brands, but i like rioja
