A lot of my friends are in the wine industry. They have got me hooked on Savigion Blanc's from New Zealand. Monkey Bay, Kim Crawford, Nobilo and may more. Have a lot of fruit flavors in them . Check them out online or ask your local wine person. Not Oakey like Chards. Very crisp. My husband loves them as they do not burn like Chards.
For Reds I recommend Meritage wines. They are blended wines that tend not to have a lot of just one flavor (spices/earthy) flavors. Again, this wine does not have a heavy burn for the person that can not handle heavy wines.

you're screwed... unless you have a ligitimate reason ... buy some Dom champagne and beg...

Look for an Argentine Malbec in the $20-$30 range. That'll be tasty.

Dom. Romane Conti 1997
This French red Burgundy smells of berries, spices and leather. Dark in color, it hints at flavors of soy sauce, flowers and licorice. The aroma is rich and penetrating without being too profound. The Romane Conti is a rare wine that has carved a niche for itself along the years. Consistently, the Romane Conti fetches prices around the thousand dollar mark no matter the vintage.

Oh, and it only costs about $1,500 but you gotta bring out the big guns for screwing up so badly. Am I right ladies?

Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante

Don't get the cheap brands.

Kendall Jackson makes some very nice, mid-priced wines. $15 -20 range.

jaffers

Kendall Jackson does make nice but affordable wines. Another nice medium priced chardonnay is La Crema... about $18.00. I've served it quite a few times.
