Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - A Malaysian man who rented a trained monkey to
pluck coconuts was killed when the macaque dropped a coconut on his
head from a tree, a news report said Monday.
Mamat Kundur, 59, was killed instantly in the accident, which
occurred Saturday at his coconut plantation in a village in
northeastern Kelantan state.
The New Straits Times daily newspaper said Mamat had gone to his
small plantation to gather the plucked coconuts when he was hit by
the falling coconut.
He had earlier hired the monkey from its owner to pluck the coconuts.
Malaysian villagers frequently capture macaques from nearby jungles
and train them to pluck coconuts.

are you on drugs
You would never know for sure, because they could not live to tell the story. I highly recommend wearing a coconut helmet in dangerous tropical settings where your skull may be at risk of falling coconut mayhem. Also, walking on your hands eliminates the risk.
Maybe you can ask one of the participants on the T.V. realty show "Survivor"!
They were a bunch of cookku-nuts!
People get killed by them darn things all the time. Think about the weight of the fruit and the velocity it falls down a palm tree.
mabey if it was carried by an african swallow
And if the next coconut fell on the dead person would it make a sound, assuming no one else was around?
probs, anythings possible
Yes. it is a common occurrence so be careful the next time you stand under one.
Not sure! Someone had to be around if it happened to prove it! Try googling it!
Doubtful but not out the realm of possibilities. I saw a kid when I was in high school get hit in the head by a durien fruit that fell from about 30 ft up. It knocked him out for about an hour. They are alittle heavier than the large green coconut plus they have spines on them.
no, no it has never killed anyone but sometimes if that happens to you you a injury may occur like a concussion
I'm sure it's possible especially if it hits them in the temple. I do know that when there is a threat of a hurricane, they have to cut the coconuts down so that they don't become flying weapons!
There have been instances of coconuts falling from palms and injuring people, and claims of some fatalities. This was the subject of a paper published in 1984 that won the Ig Nobel Prize in 2001. Falling coconut deaths are often used as a comparison to shark attacks; the claim is often made that a person is more likely to be killed by a falling coconut than by a shark. However, there is no evidence of people being killed in this manner. However William Wyatt Gill, an early LMS missionary on Mangaia recorded a story in which Kaiara, the concubine of King Tetui, was killed by a falling green nut. The offending palm was immediately cut down. This was around 1777, the time of Captain Cook's visit.
