What is the best wine to have for a first year anniversary romantic dinner?
I hope that makes sense. Its mine and my husbands one year anniversary and I want it to be special and I thought it would be romantic to have wine with our dinner and I don't know what is the best kind to have for it.
Answers:
Depends on what you will be eating.
Reds for steak and red meats and white for fish and pastas with white sauces.

Happy Anniversary!
anything from a box.
I say you should actually have champagne instead of wine.
get the brut (dry) kind & enjoy Or if you prefer the wine get something that you like a white wine like a pinot grigio is a good choice
Start with the food and select a wine to complement it. What're you gonna be eating?
Another consideration is that, if you have any good suppliers in your area, a really select and rare beer can be an interesting, flavorful and exceptional complement to a lot of different foods. It's unique, and some of the great Belgian, German and French beers come in 750 ml bottles like the wine and get you similarly buzzed. They're nothing like the cheap American lagers from North America. They tend to be a lot less pricey than the good wines too.
maybe a good merlot red wine. something sweet not dry.
This depends on what you are planning to have for dinner. Here are some ideas based on foods you might have:
If you start with a cheese plate, try Pinot Grigio, Pinot Gris or Chardonnay (if the cheeses are soft like harvarti and gouda) or if you are into the sharper cheeses (sharp cheddar or roquefort) try a Syrah. Cheese plates are very romantic. I like plates with 3-4 cheeses, from a lovely soft brie and a creamy blue to a spicy habanero jack. Add 2 varieties of crackers, some smoked meats (if you are into meats) a smoked salmon or trout, and some strawberries and apple slices----Oooo to die for.
Main course: for white fishes, oysters, scallops, crab, etc., chicken, turkey, or duck, try a nice white wine. Right now, I'm finding a lot of good Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigios (Ermacora is lovely.) With Tuna, a Merlot or a Cabernet, and Syrah and salmon love each other.
If you are doing a pesto, try Chardonnay--although many do not like Chardonnay (it's very oaky.) If you are going heartier, like bbq sauce, tomato sauce, etc., try a nice dry Cabernet or Marietta's Old Vine Red.
With your dessert, if it's light like a key lime pie, try a Sauvignon Blanc; or if you are going chocolate, go with a red for sure! Like a big fat juicy Cab!
Some excellent wines are coming out of Walla Walla, Washington.
You can start out with champagne or sparking wine as a before dinner drink. It cleanses your palate and is a very romantic drink. If you can find it, get Prosecco (an Italian sparkling wine) or a chardonnay sparkling wine. After the champagne toast, build the meal around what wines you like. If you aren't a wine drinker, than I suggest for red meats merlot (Smoking Loon or Columbia Crest) and for fish/seafood/pork, chardonnay (Columbia Crest or Little Penguin).
Happy Anniversary and may you have more to come!
I agree with the above in that you should pair the wine with what you're serving as well as what you enjoy drinking usually (a nice surprise could turn into a big flop if you just don't have a taste for it, even if it costs $50...) I recently served some wines for my mom's 60th birthday, moderately priced because of the number of bottles, and my suggestion would be to get some nice dessert wines for after the meal: a moscato d'asti would be nice.... but that's me.... Champagne, to me, is overdone...
The type of wine that would go best with the meal itself depends on what food you will be eating. Visit this site for info on which wine is best with different foods: http://www.cheers2wine.com/food-and-wine...
If you don't normally drink wine, you might prefer to celebrate with a sparkling wine that is sweet....such as Ballatore Asti Spumante which can be found for less than $10 a bottle.
The best kind to have would be something that you would both enjoy. I for one do not like red. What do yo and your husband like?
I would take champagne, that's more romantic, but, if you want wine, well, I'd say red wine
