Question:

What exactly is a tequila? (Obviously a drink, but made from what?)?

Answers:
blue agave is the the succulent(yucca type plant) used to make tequila. mixto is 51% blue agave. and the good stuff is 100% blue agave distillate. Plato(silver is aged 0 to 2 months, repasado is 2 months to a year in oak barrels and anajo is 1 year + aging. mescal is just a different type of agave and made outside the Jalisco region (where the town of tequila is) . mescal is not made from peyote but some can get you to the point of hallucinating the next day(from dt's and dehydration)

made from crushed hearts of the agave plant. the agave plant is a cactus found in mexico. the hearts of them are similar to artichoke hearts.

Cactus, seriously. The 'real' Tequila (banned in US) is called mescale (mess cal ee),which is similar to mecaline. that's the stuff that has the worm in it. It's made from the same plant as peyote buttons come from. You get more 'high' than drunk.

Watch out for that stuff! Peyote isn't for the weak at heart.

something that will kill you if you drink to much and that will you get you totally drunk but in a bad way! DON'T DRINK IT!!

Tequila is made from agave. It is a plant only grown in the southern hemisphere.

From the heart of the blue Agave plant

In Mexico there's a plant that's a cactus sort of thing called the blue agave. The blue agave takes eight to twelve years to grow before it can be used to make tequila.

Read all about how tequila is made and what differentiates it from pulque and mezcal in the link below:

Made from cactus with the spikes left in it. As we used to sing...

Have some tequila Shiela,
And when your feeling queerer,
I'll come creeping nearer,
To take you to bed with me.
