Why are people so cheap at Vegas night clubs?!
Answers: I am a "bouncer" and help provide a safe environment at an upscale club. I get paid hourly but why do people not take care of those who go out of their way to make your evening that much better. Not so much the general public but those who have bottle service..... I'll take your girl through the crowd to the toilet, only to return to an empty handshake, or remove a nuisance and not even a thank you..... reasons please..... I tip generously. Why does it not come back?
For lack of better ways to say it here are some possible reasons but poor excuses for what you experience:
- People who enjoy such service are often above the "common class" and feel this is not special or extra service but something they deserve. Of course we know this to be only in their minds not truly the case. Never the less they take for granted you should be doing this service.
- Some others may be shooting their wad so to speak and not be willing to part with even a nickel in fear they will lose everything if they don't hang on to every cent.
Unfortunately few people in that position are from the class of people who are in your position or if they are they have forgotten that they once too relied on generosity well over the actual paycheck to earn a decent living. People these days don't know what to tip, who to tip or even how much to tip. I would like nothing more than to suggest something like if you take pompous patrons arm candy to the powder room and get stiffed and are asked to do so again that you suggest she hold it until you are not quite so busy taking care of more important people, but we know this isn't the right thing. All you can do is suck it up and know that some day someone will appreciate it. I'm sure it's not every patron who treats you poorly but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it's a high percentage.
One last thought is to make it an effort to find a way to say "I've provided you a service I would hope you appreciate" that doesn't seem derogatory and suggests to them they actually show their gratitude. Ask fellow security personnel if they have suggestions to improve your results but aside from that just do your job and resolve to the fact that it is often thankless. Self awareness of what you do have to assume as your greatest reward.

Cuz all of our money is gone from over priced drinks! Thats why! Grrrrr Can't belive I blew off $100+ on drinks alone in like 20 minutes!
I would think that it's because you offer a service that most Americans don't get anywhere else in the country unless they live in NYC or LA. Your service is not common and most people wouldn't know that it's appropriate to tip you.
I didn't know about your service until just now! So, maybe people just need to be educated about what your job entails. Uninformed people will react ignorantly!
