Best champaign for New Year's?!
Answers: I know nothing about champaign...what is the best to get...with a $50.00 limit
I agree that MOET is the best for he price you are looking in. But if you have never tried it before you may not like it. I would recoment that you get a decent bottle of Spumante (any type) This should cost you no more than $15. It has a sweeter taste. Chanpagne is an acquired taste, wouldn't want you to be too disappointed on New Years.

Get some Moet!
I think its around $40.00......
I'm not a big fan of champagne, but I do like bubbly wines. Try Verdi. It's a Spumante and it's sweet. It'll win you over from champagne. Plus, it's under $10/bottle!
Moet & Chandon White Star
rays2002 is right if you don't really know go with a spumante!!
or you could try prosecco ( its not a champagne but a sparkling wine ) its bubbly sweet and delicious!!
Stay away from Moet; you will be paying for the popularity (Moet isn't bad, its just not as good as others at that price). Also, go for NV (non-vintage) blends; they are also better value, and you don't need to memorize which years are good.
Here are some recommendations, all with critics scores of at least 90 points, all widely available, under $40 and DELICIOUS:
NV Nicolaise Feuillatte
NV Roederer Brut Premier
NV Bollinger Special Brut (James Bond drinks Bollinger in almost every movie)
NV Taittinger Brut La Francaise
A nice step up at about $50 would be:
NV Delavenne Pere et Fils Brut Rose
NV Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut Rose
Vive cliquot (sp?)
