How long can you keep hard alcohol after it's been open?!

Question:

How long can you keep hard alcohol after it's been open?

My grandfather gave me some bottles of JD, Rum, Gin and Vodka. They were opened, but kept tightly closed. They are quite old. The little paper seals have practically fallen off. he claims that alcohol never goes bad, but i am uncertain. Any help?

Answers:
Yeah alcohol when distilled in it's big casks takes time to mature. In this process a portion of the liquid evaporates away. This portion is usually referred to as the "Angels share". The same holds true for your bottles. Hard liquers like yours shouldn't spoil or lose any of the potency but a few rules should be followed. Keep them away from sunlight, warm to high temperatures and children. After that you're all set. Maybe you'll want to crack these babys open again with your grand kids. Getting twisted with grandpa was one of my favorite games!

Kept tightly sealed, they should be ok. There will probably be a little evaporation because they can't be sealed completely. One solution is to drink them before they get any older. That is what I would do. Enjoy!!!!!!

Alcohol won't go "bad", but the taste will be horrible. Spend a few bucks for new bottles.

Those bottles are fine to drink. Hard liquor does not go bad. It does not age anymore once it comes out of the vats that it was stored in,
