Does anyone know anything about UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) ?!

Question: I want to go to Santa Cruz but I know nothing about it. I've only visited the campus once and I'd like to know more. I'd love to hear some input from someone who's attended the school, lives in the area or even knows alot about it.

i live 40 minutes away from santa cruz. i've never been to the school, but the setting is beautiful. its a fun place. in sixth grade i went to a science camp in the santa cruz hills their for 4 days and it was so much fun. i know the school your looking at has the banana slug as their mascot.
the song goes:
bannaanna slug SLUG SLUG SLUG
(and it just repeats)
