Laws re: buying hard alcohol -- i.e. Jack Daniel -- in Texas (Dallas suburb)?!

Question:

Laws re: buying hard alcohol -- i.e. Jack Daniel -- in Texas (Dallas suburb)?

OK, this will probably sound like a lame question if you're born & bred in Texas...but I'm not. My company just relocated me from CA and I went into my local Dallas suburb grocery store to purchase a couple bottles of wine for my wife and some Jack Daniels for me. After searching the store, I asked an employee where they kept the whiskey et al. After giving me a dumb look and asking if (more like saying) I'm not from TX, he said something about hard alcohol is only available in certain counties and certain stores. He was prob 18-20 yrs old and didn't know for sure.

Can anyone give me the skinny on where I can buy hard alcohol in this state? I mean TX executes you if you look at someone the wrong way. And there are drive-through liquor stores (for beer) everywhere. And they have concealed weapon permits. But I can't buy hard alcohol? That just seems counter-intuitive and I'd appreciate learning what the rules are.

I live in the City of Keller/Tarrant County. Thanks!

Answers:
Wine and beer are generally sold by grocery stores and convenience stores. Liquor may only be sold by "package stores"-which are stand alone liquor stores. You will not find liquor at grocery stores at all in Texas. "Package stores" or liquor stores are closed on sundays and can only be open from 10a to 9p any other day.

Package stores must be closed during hours when liquor
sales are prohibited by law:
Closed: Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas
Day, and New Year’s Day. If
Christmas or New Year’s Day fall
on Sunday, then you must close the
following Monday

Some counties in Texas are "dry", meaning that you may or may not be able to purchase liquor to go, or liquor by the drink-it all depends on what voters in that particular county have decided. Around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there are many "dry" areas where you cannot purchase liquor to go (at all) and may have to join a "private club" in order to purcahse liquor by the drink at a club or restaurant.

For questions on specific counties, call the TABC office in Ft. Worth (they cover the area you are referring to) at (817) 451-9466 and ask for an Enforcement Agent. They can answer your questions about what areas are dry and for what.

Yes, it is to separate the rich from the poor and it has to do with taxes, schools, and neighborhoods but mostly it has to do with $$$ so in your county I can't say for sure but in Dallas you can get liquor at Beltline close to Quorum/Addison Rd...watch for the cops. DWI's are expensive in Texas
You can also buy on 121 in the Colony...drug town USA
Also, you can purchase on East Northwest Hwy another small part of Dallas that you can purchase a ton of Meth
but don't forget if you are looking for Heroin just go to your nearest Plano High School for that junk. Best of luck and let me know if you are looking for AA...haa haa just kidding
Seriously I am just kidding

in texas the only alcohol you can purchase in grocery stores is beer and wine coolers, liqour stores carry liqour and are closed at 9 evvery night and not open on sundays.

Some Tx counties are known as "Dry Counties" I don't know about Keller. In "wet counties" you can only buy hard liquor(Whiskey, rum, gin etc) In a liquor store. And you can only buy Monday through Saturday. They close by 9 or 10 pm. Can't remember. And you cannot buy beer or wine after midnight.
