Why do they ask for money in a Free House (UK question)?!

Question:

Why do they ask for money in a Free House (UK question)?

isn't this a trades description act breach or at least a big disappointment?

Answers:
Actually, I think that Freehouse refers to the facty that the pub can sell any brands, and that they are not restricted to selling the goods of a particular brewery

'free house' means that it's not part of a brewery chain.

by the way, it's also not a house

It means it is not a "tied house"; which means that they are tied in contract to selling for certain breweries. And often it is indeed a house; the word "pub" is short for public house.

Free house means that the 'Ale House' is free to shop around for whatever deals it finds in regards to the sauce. Urgh!

A "free house" is a pub that isn't tied to a brewery - the publican sell whatever beers he/she wants.

Other than that, I don't understand your question. Sorry.

Free house just generally means it is open to any one for free.
