Help on choosing a great wine for a reasonable price, for a gift....?!

Question: Help and soon.... I need to know which good Red Wine (not by Lable but what wine i.e. Bordeux, Sarah etc.) would go good with either a desert, such as sweet spiced nuts or a chocholate. Or, a good Red wine to go with a salty, spicey snack of some sort.
I would like to make a gift package of this sort for some friends that fancy themselves wine coniseurs (sp), anyway they know their wines and enjoy drinking wine.
So, please serious answers. I need to know by Sat.
Thanks
Also, we live in Mendocino, Ca. so many wines are available to us.

I'm no expert, but I'll try to help. The only problem you might encounter with this, is that a wine I like probably will not be the same wine your friends like.
For your dessert, I would go with a Port. You can find a good Port that won't break your bank. Also, living in CA, you can look for a Late Harvest Riesling - Geyser Peak bottles a very good one. It is very sweet. You can't go wrong with Chardonnay either. I know you said not by label, but try the Two Buck Chuck, or Fat Bastard (yes that's really the name).
They're two good wines reasonably priced that you can drink now and not worry about aging. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon goes well with dark chocolate.
