Ever had absinthe?!
Answers: I know what it is, and I know it's history, but I've never had it. If you have tried it, would you please tell me your experience? Thanks :)
I don't really like the flavor of black licorice, but I agree with the others that its not hallucinogenic. With the classic sugar and water mix it goes down smooth for 110 proof (or higher). It was OK for me, but I can't describe the buzz since I had a glass of wine before and about 3 glasses of wine after. My wife had some in Scotland a few years back and she remembered nothing from after her one shot.
It can be a bit expensive since it has only been legal in the states for a few months and there are only a few approved distributors.
I did a shot. It was real absynthe from spain.
Did not live up to its reputation. It was like liquid licorice, which I hate. Blech.
I've tried around 30 different commercial absinthes from around the world. It won't make you hallucinate and it's not a drug, but it does have a different effect than other alcohols. Some describe it as a more "clear-headed drunkenness." I've found that I don't feel drunk when I'm drinking absinthe, but I still have a headache the next day.
If you're really interested in the drink, I strongly recommend checking out the wormwood society (www.wormwoodsociety.org) for more information about absinthe.
if it wasn't illegal yes, but since it is it's a bit tricky to get ahold of.
Yeh I had It in Canada.I had two drinks and besides the fun happy feeling I had,the art of how they prepare the drink is so amazing .I felt a lil bit funny after, but I bet after like 5 I would have seen the magic fairy..ha
tried a shot in canada.. i'm not sure if it was because it was just a shot, or if it wasn't pure absinthe.. but i didn't feel anything different than i would have felt had it been rum or something. i wasn't a fan of the taste, but the presentation was cool. it was a glass topped w/ a sugar cube that was lit on fire.
and it was expensive.. like $nine/shot. not worth it.
it is strong.. tastes kinda like lavender.. really nasty actually.. but that is red absinthe.. i think green is almost the same..
Yeah and I so didn't see the green fairy or whatever. Possibly because I only had a sip, decided it was disgusting, and spat it out. It burns!
