Good mixed drinks?!

Question:

Good mixed drinks?

I like to go out and have a good time. I like to socialize with other people. I want 2 kinds of good drinks. The first one is a nice light drink. Something that allows me to drink, get a mild buzz, and manage to drive home at the end of the evening, but won't (usually) cost an arm and a leg. The other one is a good knock-you-down drink. Something that goes down easy and you don't even realize it's strong, but before you know it you need a babysitter. And I ask that you don't just give me names of drinks, but the actual recipe. For example: killer punch-orange juice, pineapple juice, 151, and seven up (that one's a good kick-ya drink). BTW, I like sweet drinks, and I don't care what kind of alcohol it is, just something that will give me the desired effects. I don't like a strong alcohol taste. Smooth and sweet.

Answers:
For light alcoholic drinks that you can drink all evening, other than beer, go for long drinks with just one type of spirit. Easiest would be a simple Bourbon & Coke or Vodka & Orange. Put only a nip or half nip of the bourbon or the vodka and fill to top of a tall glass with the coke or orange. All of these are sweet, mellow, cheap, sophisticated and easy to order.

To turn either of these into "knock-you-downers" use 2-3 nips alcohol and put into a short glass with loads of ice, or for the vodka/orange you can float a half nip of galliano over the orange and you have a Harvey Wallbanger. Other strong drinks that are mellow are: Mai Tai, Long Island Tea, Champagne Cocktail. As a general guide, if you mix different types of spirit, you will get drunk quicker. As will sweeter drinks, creamy drinks, shots of any type, liqueurs, fortified wines.

Other reasonably light drinks would be almost any variation of the following styles: Collins, Cups or Slings, light fruit punch, sangria, unfortified mulled wine, Pimms Punch.

My only disclaimer is that you don't drive after either a long or short drink. there is no such alcoholic drink that you can drink all evening and then drive. 1 nip = 1 drink and you can only drink 2.5 drinks approx in an evening before driving.

Recipies:
A Light Singapore Sling - 1 part gin, 1 part lime juice, half part cherry brandy liqueur, 4 part soda (omit gin & its even lighter)
Unfortifield punches & sangrias - usual punch recipe but omit any brandy or sherry. Reduce amount of wine used.
Pimms Punch - In a 1 litre jug, 1/2 cup Pimms No. 1, several mint leaves, lemon slices, cucumber slices. Top with lemonade. Serve in ice filled glasses.
Long Island Tea - 1 part each vodka, rum, gin, tequila, juice of half a lemon. Pour over ice in tall glass. Add splash of cola.
Champagne Cocktail - put a sugar lump and dash of bitters into champagne flute. Pour over chilled champagne. Guaranteed to get you drunk quickly.
Frozen Margarita: 3 part tequila, 1 part triple sec, 2 part lime juice. Blend with crushed ice and pour into salt lined glass. Bitter yet still mellow.

Ok, i suggest to you something simple. I am exactly like you. When its a week nite and i dont want be weighed down with alcohol, i will usually have a MALIBU which is Coconut Rum AND ORANGE JUICE OR PINEAPPLE JUICE. This is simple Malibu coconut rum which you can also drink alone. For my strong drinks, I like GreyGoose or Belvedere vodka mixed with orang or Pineapple juice or you can use any type of juice like cranberry. Other sweet low key drinks include Midori Sour, which is Midor Melon liquer mixed with sweet and sour mix, (Mister T's is a good mix one). You can also try Amaretto, and mix it with sweet and sour also. There are several brands of Amaretto. Disarrono is a good one. Sex on the beach is a great drink, however I really dont know the exact liquors lo lol. By the way all of these drinks are fairly inexpensive, with the exception of the vodkas, but these bottles will last you a while. Also There are several different kinds of flavored rums that you can mix with sweet and sour mix and juices, any kind. Parrot Bay and Malibu make several flavored rums. You can also add a shot of grenadine to any of the drinks listed above to make it sweet too.

For an easy drink, I would suggest soemthing like a 7&7. For a knock-you-down drink, I would suggest an Adios Mother Fuc**r. 1 oz Vodka, 1 oz Rum, 1 oz Gin, 1 oz Tequila, Blue Curacao, Sweet and Sour, and Sprite. Should do the trick for you, and there's no alcohol taste.
