A lot of alcoholics do not drink every day. Some only drink a few times a year. Some even once a year. What makes them alcoholics is that they can't stop once they start.

Alcoholics are not defined by the number of drinks they have per day but how alcohol dictates their life. The become physically dependent on alcohol so much so that if they do not have it their body will not function right. They can get seizures, or very disoriented. Alcoholism is a disease that can never be cured but it can get better without drinking

Alcoholism is, contrary to popular belief, not determined by how many drink, what you drink, how often you drink, or anything of those sorts. While those can be good indications of alcoholism it is not the determining factor. An alcoholic is considered an alcholic when alcohol BECOMES A PROBLEM in their life. For example, when alcohol causes problems with relationships, job, health or family. When alcohol is still used and the person is aware of these problems, is what deems them an alcoholic.
