What are the down falls of bartending?!

Question:

What are the down falls of bartending?

I mean, here in Texas you can bartend at 18 and my dads female friend said I ought to try it while I'm in college for a job. Not a lot of hours, and you get a chunk of change in tips.

When I proposed the idea to my grandparents (who I live with) they freaked. My grandpa was freaking out because he's afraid I'm gonna get sued or something, though you can get sued doing anything.

Why shouldnt I try the bartending thing??

Answers:
Seems like you're reliant upon tips... and the best times are the evening hours and weekends.

The only downside the comes to mind is that as a newbie, you'd get stuck working a lunch shift with minimal tips. Also, do you like dealing with drunks... especially the angry ones.

Just make sure what hours you'll work and what the expected tips are like during that shift.

i know one of the downfalls for women is that they get hit on really bad. it may be kind of crazy at times when its really busy. it also might be kind of slow at times when its weeknights and you might make less money then. i also wouldnt do it if you dont like being around drunks, smoke, and loud music. i dont think it would be a bad job though. how hard could it be to make drinks and open beer bottles..haha. i would try it.

You will get sued if you don't do your job, which is shutting people off that are plowed. Other than that, you will be fine.

Bartending is about personality and customer service. Know your bar, take care of people (within house rules) and have a rockin' personality, you will make killer tips.
