What different wines?!

Question: What different wines are there (any colour) and what are their basic characteristics? I always pick the one on offer when I go shopping! But back in summer I saw a review on telly about a Riesling. I tried it and really liked it, so now I'd like to know more so I can make a proper choice when I'm shopping.

Many. There are different grapes which can be combined .
My favourite is Sauvignon Blanc...grassy, lychee, goosberry flavours and a lovely aroma.
Red...Shiraz (Syrah), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir.
White..Chardonnay, Reisling, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard..etc.
There are Rosé wines too.
There are many more than I've named but that's enough to be getting on with.

best read a book , see what type sounds like you, go out buy it , really trial and error sort of thing

Rose, is the pink wine. It's got a sort of melon/strawberry/rasberry taste.

White wine usually consists of grapes. I normally add some lemonade with the wine if it's too dry.

And red wine is very rich. I dislike red wine. If you like lots of fruity drinks, then you'll like it.

This is one of those "impossible to answer" questions. It really does depend on your taste, what you like, what you don't.

For example, I usually drink only red wine, but I do not like too fruity a taste.

What you have to do is try them out, say, a bottle or two each week. When you find one you like, steam off the label, and stick it on your kitchen notice-board. Next time you go shopping, get some more!

if you find a wine that you like, buy it and enjoy it, as some wines are really expensive and you may hate the taste of them. ask a good wine merchant to select a wine that is like the one you like and increase your wine experience.
enjoy,
danny.

There is always something new to learn about food and wines. Winesa re like people. Try a different wine each time. There are so many to choose from: Italy, Sapin, Portugal, USA, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Greece. Thailand, Yes! Thailand, even India and China. Try some more unusual varietals like Pinot Noir, Gewuerztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Shiraz, Negroamaro, Sangiovese as in Chianti Classico from Italy, Primitivo, Zinfandel, Sekt, Viognier, Chateau-neuf-du-pape, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, Franciacorta, Muscat, Tokay, etc. Don't let wine snobs and glossy magazines dictate what you drink. You are your own best judge. Enjoy!

i LOVE Riesling some more than others. anyhow Zinfandel is sweet also its usually pink

Depends on what you are eating with the wine primarily red wine with red meat and white wine with fish and poultry. There are lots of books and web sites that help you choose which goes best.

Mmmmm, depends on your tastes!! For a white wine, I like a nice crisp dry Chardonnay. For a rose, I usually go for a White Grenache, or a Zinfandel; nice and light, and fruity....and for a red....my favourite; a good full bodied Shiraz, mmmmm
