Question about filming the consumption of alcohol?!

Question: so i know that you cannot film a person drinking alcohol so instead of liquor they use water for example. but what about the shows like the real world when they are at a bar getting wasted? its a reality show so they are not faking being drunk. so doesnt the rule count there too?

I do know that is a rule for shows with scripts (sitcoms and dramas and such). But I am rather curious myself about the reality shows and winning sports teams like the first answerer mentioned.

I would assume it is okay to film it in a reality show or documentary, as it would appear that they did film it. Its hard for me to imagine they tried to recreate it and have the reality star pretend to be drunk and make a fool of themselves a second time (though you can't always be certain of that with people nowadays).

I'm thinking that would probably be the rule shows like the Real World cover themselves under. That the show is a "documentary" of how people get along and so under the guise and argument that they are teaching the shows' producers are able to get away with showing alcohol consumption. The FCC hasn't said anything yet as best as I can tell.

I've never heard anything saying you can't film someone getting drunk... Where did you hear that?

That can't be a rule.
What about when a pro sports team wins or racers when they are filmed drinking champagne.
The man show had all of the audience members with a beer in hand. They also had a cast member who would chug a pint. I don't think it was tea.
To my knowledge, that isn't a law.

I haven't heard about that rule. I'm sure they probably substitute alcohol in scripted TV and film since there are multiple takes, but I don't think such a rule exists.

There is nothing against filming someone actually drinking, except with movies and scripted television, its a bad ideal to have your actors/actresses drinking and not be able to film. Not to mention you are doing it over and over.

So since there isn't any rules on filming someone drinking, then if someone drinks on a "reality" show, its not against any rules. People drink and get drunk and do stupid stuff and the producers want to film that stuff because for them its compelling television. I tell you what would blow your mind, watch "Intervention" on A&E. That show follow people who have addictions to drugs and alcohol and shows people actually shooting up. It's kinda disgusting, but it is compelling.

not when commercials are at stake...Wake up and realise (mean more when I spell it that way?) that it's all smoke and mirrors and ever YOUR pre-pubescent mores are being assailed by the constant lies. :) Merry Holiday!!
