Hot on one side, cold on the other?!

Question: Did anyone see Heston Blumethal's Christmas special? (Not that it matters if you did or didn't it only puts this in context.) he served mulled wine that was "hot on one side [of the glass] and cold on the other"?! How bonkers is that? And he wouldn't reveal the secret! Do any food experts have any ideas how he did it? Is it something you could try at home or would you need some highly specialised equipment or ingredients?

Sorry I didn't watch the programme in question, but as someone interested in food and cooking I can only guess this must have had something to do with spice. Sometimes spices have cunning ways of tricking our brain and we think of hot (spicy) as Hot (temp).

I know That is a bit stupid Probably It was bot hot but he just said that that man is nutssssssssssss
